SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all

The World We Want is one that’s clean and refreshingly pure. We think that the bare minimum cannot become a luxury. What’s life without the very basics like water? What’s life if lived in unhygienic and unclean surroundings?

The World We Want

What does SDG 6 mean to us?

  • Protecting and restoring water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers and lakes (Target 6.6)

Water quality in the River Lune Catchment is affected by a number of issues which disrupt ecosystems and inhibit recreational use of the river by the community. The Lune Rivers Trust educate and encourage local people to play a role in the conservation, protection, rehabilitation and improvement of the River Lune.

  • Increasing water-use efficiency across all sectors and ensuring sustainable withdrawals and supply of freshwater to address water scarcity and substantially reduce the number of people suffering from water scarcity (Target 6.4)

The West Cumbrian water supplies project by United Utilities, to be completed in June 2022, will supply West Cumbria with water from the Thirlmere Reservoir. This will ensure that water demands can be met with an ever-increasing population, whilst protecting the rare species living in previous water sources of Ennerdale and the River Ehen.
