Strengthening Cumbria’s Civil Society
Better, Together
In 2023 several community partners came together to support His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the County of Cumbria, Mr Alexander Scott, appointed in July 2023.
We are asking together, what is most needed to create a more thriving and equitable community life in Cumbria? What is working already that makes us a strong, connected, and flourishing place to be?
To learn what we can and support this process we are engaging together in a three-stage process: looking, listening, and engaging. Would you like to be involved? Learn more below and contact us to host a conversation.

Phase 1: Looking at the Community
During the Autumn of 2023 and Winter of 2024 we will be gathering information about the community. Do you have surveys, reports, or other learnings that you would like to share with us? Please upload them to this Miro board or send securely to sdgaction@cumbria.ac.uk

Phase 2: Listening to the Community
In the Spring of 2024 we will be out and about in Cumbria to hear more about what is needed for a thriving community. What is working well? What could be working better? Sign up here to complete our card-sorting exercise, attend an event, or to be in the know about community events where we will be.

Phase 3: Engaging the Community Together
To engage together we will share what we have learned with the community more broadly, and if funding is secured, through a community roadshow. We would then host events in key locations throughout Cumbria to engage with the learnings, to engage with you, and to engage in conversations about a flourishing future for Cumbria.
We have been gathering information about the myriad of ways that community members are contributing to a more flourishing and equitable Cumbria.
