SDG 5: Gender Equality

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

“The World We Want is one that’s gender neutral. We will always champion all things equal and inclusive. Shouldn’t we be co-existing in harmony? Shouldn’t we be recognising the power of mutual respect?”

The World We Want

What does SDG 5 mean to us?

  • Ending all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere (Target 5.1)

The Community Foundation for Lancashire Women’s Fund identify four key areas which undermine the quality of life and futures of women: confidence, aspiration, self-belief and resilience; domestic violence and abuse; mental health and wellbeing; and social isolation. In partnership with the leaders of local charities and grass roots community groups, they are working to create a fund to support women in Lancashire.

  • Ensuring women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life (Target 5.5)

The Women’s Environment Network are an organisation addressing global issues and working with community organisations to understand women’s lived experiences. The Nanas are a local example of such an organisation: comprised of women from all ages and walks of life, they successfully staged over 1000 days of anti-fracking protest at Preston North Road.
