SDG 12: Sustainable Consumption and Production
Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
“The World We Want is one that is responsible. We are determined to conserve our resources. Can we not think before we throw? Can we not wait before we waste?”
What does SDG 12 mean for us?
-
Halving global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses (Target 12.3)
The Ulverston Food Project are a community project tackling food poverty by intercepting and re-distributing surplus food (perfectly good, in date food which becomes ‘surplus’ due to over-production, labelling errors or short shelf life) that would otherwise go to waste. Members can sign up to a weekly Food Club initiative for £3 to receive a large bag including a variety of goods.
-
Ensuring that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature (Target 12.8)
Cumbria Action for Sustainability is a charity delivering events, advice, training, practical projects, and specialist consultancy services with the aim of empowering and enabling people, communities and businesses to live and work more sustainably.
